Jaipur Violence: 4 Police Officers Injured in Stone-Pelting During Anti-Encroachment Drive Outside Mosque in Chomu
Jaipur, Rajasthan: Violence broke out in Chomu early Friday in an anti-encroachment exercise conducted by the local administration in an area outside a mosque, where four police officers were injured when a mob of people reportedly used stone-pellets.
The officials say that the incident took place during the early hours when a combined team of municipal authorities and Rajasthan Police arrived at the scene to clear off illegal structures and iron railings that were encroaching on a city road. It was a part of the usual operation with the intention of decongesting the traffic and making sure that the population was safe.
When the encroachment was started to be taken away, people came together at the point and protested against the act. Things quickly went out of control, and some people were reportedly hurling stones towards the police officers. The violence injured four of the police officers who hurried to a local hospital. They are said to be in a stable condition.
To control the situation, the police used tear gas and low-level force to disperse the crowd. More police were put on the spot, and flag marches were carried out to avert further disturbance.
In precautionary steps, the government blocked the internet in Chomu to limit the transmission of fake content and to enforce law and order. Top officials said that the matter is under control now, but there has been an increase in security.
A probe has been initiated to determine the perpetrators of the violence, and legal action against the perpetrators will be taken, the officials said.
The district administration has urged the residents to be peaceful and cooperate with law enforcement officials because the anti-encroachment campaign was being carried out within the confines of the law.
